This free printable read-and-draw worksheet helps kindergarten and first grade children practice finding the details that make up a complete sentence. Children read “The sun shines in the sky.” and create an illustration that represents both the subject and the setting described in the text. They can add clouds, trees, people, or other scenery of their own while keeping the important information from the sentence intact.
Deciding which details are required and which can be added creatively is a useful part of reading comprehension. As children turn the sentence into a picture, they practice reading for meaning, visualizing what they have read, and checking that their illustration matches the words on the page. This free printable worksheet works well for kindergarten and first grade reading practice at home, homeschool lessons, or a quick literacy activity.
