This free printable read-and-draw worksheet helps kindergarten and first grade children practice following the details in a longer sentence. Children read “A dog drinks from the bowl.” and create an illustration that matches what the words describe. Their picture should show the dog drinking and include the bowl, while the dog’s appearance and the rest of the scene can be created however they choose.
Illustrating a sentence encourages readers to consider how its subject, action, and other details fit together to create meaning. Children can use their finished picture to check whether they included the important information from the text, giving them visual reading comprehension practice without an additional writing task. This free worksheet is suitable for homeschool, at-home reading practice, or extra kindergarten and first grade literacy work.
