Draw & Write: Fill in the Blank – Everyday 20

This free printable draw-and-write worksheet gives Pre-K and kindergarten children a more personal way to practice beginning writing. Children follow the prompt to draw a friend, choosing who they want to represent and which details to include. They then complete “I see ___.” with a word or name that matches their picture. Depending on the child’s writing level, they might write “a friend” or use the name of the person they drew.

Connecting writing with someone familiar can make the sentence more meaningful while still keeping the activity simple and approachable. Children practice turning an idea into a drawing, choosing an appropriate response, writing within a sentence frame, and reading their finished sentence. This free preschool and kindergarten worksheet can be used for early writing practice, homeschool literacy activities, or additional reading and writing practice at home.
