This free read-and-draw worksheet gives preschool and kindergarten children a short sentence to understand and illustrate: “A fish swims.” Children can draw the fish in an ocean, pond, aquarium, or another setting of their choice, adding their own details while keeping the main idea of the sentence clear in their picture.
Creating a scene from a few written words helps beginning readers practice visualization and reading comprehension together. It also gives children room to make creative choices without changing what the sentence means. This free printable early reading worksheet is easy to use for at-home practice, homeschool lessons, or a short literacy activity when you want children to practice understanding simple sentences.
