Reading comprehension starts with understanding what a sentence is actually telling you. In this free Pre-K and kindergarten worksheet, children read “The girl laughs.” and draw a scene that shows the meaning of the sentence. They can decide what the girl looks like, where she is, and how to show that she is laughing, giving them some creative freedom while still responding to what they read.
This free read-and-draw printable is designed for beginning readers who are working with short, simple sentences. Combining reading and drawing encourages children to form a mental picture from written language and provides parents with an easy way to see whether the sentence was understood. It can be used for reading practice at home, homeschool work, or as a quick supplemental activity.
