Children practice connecting an action with its object in this free printable reading worksheet for kindergarten and first grade. After reading “The girl plays with blocks.”, they draw a scene that shows what the sentence means. The blocks are an important part of the idea, while children are free to decide what the girl is building or how the rest of the scene looks.
Read-and-draw activities encourage children to use the entire sentence when forming a mental picture instead of relying on just one or two familiar words. This worksheet provides approachable reading comprehension and visualization practice while leaving space for individual interpretation and creativity. Print it for free to use during homeschool, reading practice at home, or as an extra kindergarten or first grade literacy activity.
