This free printable draw-and-write worksheet helps Pre-K and kindergarten children use both a picture and a descriptive sentence to practice early writing. Children first draw a tree, then complete “The ___ is tall.” with the word that names their drawing. The word they add needs to make sense with both the illustration and the description in the sentence.
Working with a supported sentence frame gives beginning writers practice choosing and writing a meaningful vocabulary word without requiring them to compose an entire sentence independently. Children also practice connecting nouns with describing words as they read their completed sentence and compare it with their picture. Use this free worksheet for preschool or kindergarten writing practice, homeschool literacy work, vocabulary review, or learning at home.
